bulthaup’s new Joburg kitchen showroom

bulthaup’s new Joburg kitchen showroom

bulthaup, a global leader in the kitchen furniture industry, together with the local partner Living Kitchens (Pty) Ltd, opened their second kitchen furniture showroom in South Africa. The showroom is situated in Johannesburg, in the suburb of Kramerville near Sandton. From its roots as an industrial area, Kramerville has become a new ‘hot spot’ for home ware and décor shopping.

“We opened the first bulthaup showroom here in Cape Town just 18 months ago,” says Marc O. Eckert, CEO of bulthaup and grandson of the company founder, “So it’s nothing short of spectacular to see the growth and success of our business here with this new showroom. There is a real synergy in this country between our brand values and the South African lifestyle. Homes have so much space and light here and dining and entertainment often take center stage, with the kitchen as a real focus point.”

At 350 square meters, including a double-height mezzanine, this is one of the largest bulthaup showrooms in the world with four main areas featuring top-end finishes from the bulthaup range and Gaggenau appliances.

“We wanted to reflect the South African lifestyle in different ways and with materials that haven’t been available in this country before,” said Ramon Casado, Design Director.

Half of the showroom includes large scale Neolith tiles (120 x 120cm) for a very uniform look and then the other half in the lifestyle area uses solid timber Douglas fir planks (of 12 meters by 40cm) from Dinesen in Denmark. This very iconic and beautiful wood floor is used in the Saatchi Gallery in London and in many projects by world-famous architect Jon Pawson.

“We designed a main display area, very open-plan, including dining and breakfast bar, as the ‘soul’ of the house, with a scullery area at the back. It also includes a bar on a mezzanine floor, looking out at the Sandton skyline. Surrounding this we created three additional kitchen areas highlighting key bulthaup designs and ranges. It’s stunning!” Said Casado. The showroom has a distinct gallery-feel that also shows off the functionality and beauty of the true purpose of the kitchen, cooking and food preparation.

“bulthaup in South Africa is now positioned to serve the premium kitchen private residential market with showrooms in Cape Town and Johannesburg,” said Managing Director of Living Kitchens (Pty) Ltd, Colin Lee. “And Johannesburg itself is a hub for Southern Africa and beyond. Now we can offer a more central location for high-end development projects we’re working on in countries such as Angola, Nigeria, Mauritius and Seychelles, to name just a few.”
