Posie’s Pocketful of Treats

Last year (the June 2014 issue) we featured Emma de Crespigny’s vintage-furniture showroom C20 Galerie, Woodstock, which showcases retro furniture that she has sourced from all over the world and restored. The venue is also where Emma and her daughter Posie reside. The quaint new adjoining eponymous cafe Posie’s serves coffee and pastries, and Emma is planning to add light lunches and breakfasts to the menu too. Lingering a bit longer over coffee and cake in a creative’s home and workspace while admiring – perhaps even purchasing – one of the rare pieces is our idea of a great date.

Just one Touch

Nespresso first launched its range of Lattissima coffee machines back in 2007 and instantly changed the way we enjoy coffee at home. The recently released new Lattissima Touch comes with a host of updated features and offers six recipes at the touch of a button, including ristretto and milk froth. The preheating times for the coffee and milk have been further improved so that your favourite coffee recipe is served on the double.

Glass Half Full

Recently launched amid much fanfare, the Saxon Hotel Villas & Spa’s Eighteen05 bar is the first dedicated Johnnie Walker bar outside Scotland. Named for the year Walker was born, the space was designed by renowned Johannesburg-based Stephen Falcke and is a fitting tribute to the whisky legend – traditional and tasteful, with a modern twist. The idea here is to immerse yourself in the Johnnie Walker brand, learn about and sample the wide range of exclusive whiskies on offer and just drink in the experience.

Watch this Space

After meeting in Milan many years ago, Stefano Moro, Heine van Wyk and Charlene Stephenson, the trio of friends behind Moro Gelato, brought their flair for style (they all worked in the fashion industry) to their other passion, Italian gelato and sorbet, which they make according to Stefano’s nonna’s family recipes. Although up until recently you’ve only been able to find their treats at markets, they’re just putting the finishing touches to their Salt River store, so you’ll soon be able to stock up at any time.
