Three days of Singapore design
Part five of our design series – the global design community will be touching down in Singapore for the World Architecture Festival.
World Architecture Festival 1–3 October
The annual festival and awards ceremony for the architecture industry takes place at the Marina Bay Sands Resort in Singapore this year. It will see around 200 shortlisted projects from 40 countries compete for top honours in 30 different categories. As well as the awards ceremony, there’s a series of exhibitions, lectures, discussions, debates and parties over the four days.
While you’re there…
What to See in Singapore
Contemporary art and design gallerist Pearl Lam opened her third gallery in Singapore’s cultural and art hub, Gillman Barracks in January. The precinct is a wonderfully preserved old colonial barracks that’s home to 16 international galleries, three restaurants and the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA), making a visit well worthwhile.
Where to Dine in Singapore
Located in a 1930s Art Deco building in the heart of Singapore’s CBD, The Black Swan Restaurant, completed earlier this year, is as intriguing as its name suggests. Designed by local architecture and interior design firm Takenouchi Webb, the impeccable interiors stay true to the provenance of the building yet ooze sex appeal.
Where to Stay in Singapore
Having undergone a multimillion-dollar renovation late last year by design firm White Jacket, the picturesque Naumi Hotel has been fitted out with interior furnishings by the who’s who of international design – think B&B Italia, Poltrona Frau, Zanotta, Tom Dixon and Artemide – as well as an impressive collection of some specially commissioned Singaporean art.
