Wine, dine and enjoy Paris design

We’ve got the design spirit…and it’s taking us all over the globe. Time to stop for some wine in Paris.

Paris Design Week 6–13 September

The city of lights comes alive with the stars of the European design scene in September. As the official follow-up event to maison & objet, Paris Design Week is where the latest collections from top French and other European designers are revealed in every conceivable space, from ateliers and showrooms to boutiques and restaurants. Last year’s festival occupied 180 venues, drew 12 000 visitors and included 250 participants. if you’re in Europe during this time, this is where it’s at.

Paris from above…

While you’re there…

Freshly renovated by new owners, Hôtel Vernet exemplifies a fusion of chic contemporary design, exuberant French flair and Parisian elegance. Situated on the Champs Elysées, between the Triangle of Paris and Place de l’Etoile, the transformation of the 100-year-old building was at the hands of interior designer François Champsaur. His use of bold colour and expert craftsmanship has made this an inspiring place to stay when in the French capital.

The rooms are fashioned in a contemporary, Parisian style that gives visitors a feeling of wellbeing and relaxation.

Design Research Studio, the consultancy of renowned British designer Tom Dixon, has put its expert touch to Eclectic Restaurant, which opened in January this year. Commissioned by restaurateurs Fabienne and Philippe Amzalak, Dixon’s unequivocal style has come to the fore in the ambient 70s-inspired interior.

Eclectic Restaurant lives up to its name with a mix of diverse materials such as marble, concrete, brass and leather.

The new flagship boutique of Dutch design duo Viktor & Rolf, on Rue Saint Honore, is remarkable not only for the elegant garments on display, but because the entire interior is covered in grey felt. Styled by architectural design firm Architecture & Associés, the unusual choice of material creates an unforgettable shopping experience.

Viktor&Rolf’s shop joins a list that includes the boutique interiors of Dior, Cacharel, Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto.

The journey for global design doesn’t stop here. Next up, London…
